His Holiness Moran Mor Saint Ignatius Elias III Patriarch of Antioch and the East came to India in 1931 to resolve the differences between the two factions of Syrian Orthodox Church. Despite falling to end schism His Holiness remained in India until February 1932 when he died and the remains of the patriarch were interred in the Manjanikkara St. Stephen’s church. Is successor Patriarch Ignatius Zaka II was officially declared him as a Saint.
In the name of the Saint, His Grace Kuriakose Mor Coorilose Metropolitan of Kollam Niranam and Thumpamon Diocese of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church established Patriarch Elias Charitable Society (Reg. No. 648/’82) in 1982 at Kundara. Other founder members are Rev. Fr. K.J. Thomas, Rev. Fr. A.V. Zachariya, Chev. T.C. Varghese Tharakan, Shri. T.K. Cherian, Shri. George Cherian, Chev. K.T. Alexander, Shri. G. Yohannan and Shri. P.K. George.
The main object of the society is to establish educational institution in the locality. St. Mary’s College of Arts and Science affiliated to University of Kerala (vide order No. Go (ms.) 460/2015_H. Education, dated 24/07/2015 of Govt.of Kerala & Order No. AC.BII/01/39368/2015 dated 17/6/2015 of the University of Kerala) commenced its operation in the year 2015.
The college is located at Mulavana, 1.8km east of Mulavana Junction viz Maruthoor Bhagom and it is a beautiful village in Kollam District, 5km away from Kundara, the cultural capital of Desinganadu, which is a developed town with road, rail, water access and industrial and cultural development.Our campus is spread over 11.25 Acres of land with superb geographical natural beauty. The unique serene environment is an added gift of God to the stake holders. Our main college building measures more than ten thousand square feet with standard amenities as prescribed by the University of Kerala.
Fifty percent of the students intake is from the centralized allotment process of university of Kerala and the remaining seats are filled by management in strict compliance with the regulations.
The fee structure is as prescribed by the regulatory authority.
National as well as state level scholarship is available to the deserving students on submitting applications to the competent authorities along with the recommendation of the principal.
The college provides transportation facilities to students who are dwellingaway from the location by collecting a reasonable charge.
Illiteracy is tantamount to darkness, which will impede the movement to prosperity of posterity. The watch word ‘Learn to Lead’ indicates our motto. ie. To impart character oriented higher education to all without any discrimination such as community, cast, creed, gender, economic and social status and so on.

Mathews Mor Theodosios Metropolitan of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Mor Michael Dionysius Dayara, Adoor and CA. Kuruvila George, FCA is the secretary and Mr. Solomon Peedikayil is the Treasurer and other committee members are Rev. Fr. T.V. Punnoose Tharakan, Mr. T.V Cheriyan Tharakan, Mr. P.S. Thomas, Mr. Sajan P. George, Mr. Viby Varghese and Mr. M. Jacob Panicker.
